If Julia Roberts's younger half-sister, Nancy Motes, is to be believed, it's not easy being related to the "Pretty Woman" star.
Motes, who is Roberts's sister from their mother's second marriage (Roberts also has two full siblings -- actors Eric Roberts and Lisa Roberts Gillan), claims in interviews with the New York Daily News and UK's The Sun to have shelled out over $30,000 for gastric bypass surgery, in part because of Roberts's comments about her size.
"My weight has fluctuated my entire life," Motes, 37, admits. "So I just got a lot of criticism from Julia, which was very discouraging for me."
Having weighed 280 pounds at her heaviest, Motes underwent the surgery in June 2012, and is now down to 155 pounds.
Although she owes her current job, as a production assistant on "Glee," to Roberts's contacts, she still describes their relationship as "a work in progress."
"It's not going to be fixed overnight, nor do I think it's going to be fixed at this point by me just getting skinny," she says.
