Jason Statham is known for his action chops and grizzled good looks. Melissa McCarthy is known for being hilarious and all-around awesome. What would happen if they joined forces? It could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. The "Expendables" star is in talks to join Paul Feig's movie "Susan Cooper," which will feature McCarthy as the eponymous spy.
Feig has described the character as "a female James Bond," and word is that it will be similar in tone to "The Heat," which was funny but also packed in a lot of action. A recent rumor also has Rose Byrne, who appeared alongside McCarthy in Feig's "Bridesmaids," joining the film.
There's currently no start date for production; Statham is currently filming "Fast and Furious 7," and McCarthy has a whole lot of projects on her plate. (She's also rocking the cover of "Elle" mag's November issue!) Her show "Mike and Molly" is scheduled to return in November, and she's attached to the upcoming film "St. Vincent De Van Nuys." McCarthy is currently filming her directorial debut, "Tammy," which is slated for a July 2014 release.
If Statham signs on, this will either give him a chance to show off his less serious side, or signal that "Susan Cooper" is serious about spy action. Either way, we're on board.
