enders game sequelSummit

Looks like it's "Game" over.

Analysts tell The Hollywood Reporter that, despite "Ender's Game"'s first-place opening this weekend, its lackluster $28 million haul wasn't enough to justify a sequel. One analyst reported that "Ender" didn't perform well with young adults -- its target audience -- and its "good but not great CinemaScore of B+ is not likely to hold moviegoer interest," especially with stiff competition like "Thor: The Dark World" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" opening in the next few weeks.

One analyst predicted that the movie, which cost about $110 million to produce, would only make about $75 million. Another said that while "Ender"'s opening weekend total was "credible," that sum was "not a plausible start of a new franchise."

While harsh assessments, it seems the numbers don't lie. Films that can't recoup their production costs (see: "The Lone Ranger") are considered flops, and it appears "Ender" may be one of them. Fans of the books are going to need to show their loyalty at the box office if they want to see more of their hero on the big screen.
