A Florida moviegoer attending a screening of "Lone Survivor" Monday afternoon was killed after he refused to stop texting, and a disgruntled fellow moviegoer allegedly shot him and his female companion.
Fox Tampa Bay reports that the incident occurred during a matinee of "Lone Survivor," the Mark Wahlberg film about a doomed group of Marines in Afghanistan, where the alleged shooter and his wife got into an argument with the couple in front of them, who were texting before the film began.
"The victim was on his cell phone, he was texting. We believe he was making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation between the suspect and the victim," Sheriff Chris Nocco told reporters.
One witness, a former Marine, told the Fox affiliate that he heard the two couples arguing, saw popcorn being thrown, and then heard a bang. Fox reported that the alleged gunman shot both male and female texters, who were rushed to the hospital.
The male victim died, while the female victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The alleged shooter was reportedly detained by other moviegoers until authorities arrived.
"It's absolutely crazy it would rise to this level over somebody just texting in a movie theater," Nocco said.
The alleged shooter was taken into police custody and is undergoing questioning.
