While Marvel has been characteristically tight-lipped about its release strategy for a slew of upcoming sequels, the folks over at JoBlo claim that they've got the inside scoop on at least one title. The site is reporting that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" has already been greenlit, and will get a 2016 release.
JoBlo initially reported that the "Guardians" sequel would premiere on the already-reserved Marvel release date of May 6, 2016, going head-to-head with the "Man of Steel" sequel. The site has since backtracked on that report slightly, writing that their source "clarified it will be sometime in 2016...not necessarily on May 6."
Either way, it's exciting that Marvel has so much confidence in "Guardians" that they've effectively guaranteed a sequel many months before the quirky flick even opens. And JoBlo also reports that rumors of an animated "Guardians" TV series have now been confirmed, with the show aiming to debut on Disney XD sometime in the fall of 2015.
All in all, it seems like Marvel fanboys and -girls have a lot to look forward to over the next few years.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" opens August 1.
