Playing a president in the movies has to be a lot like playing one of Shakespeare's
kings. On the one hand, you get to strut around as the most powerful person in the story. On the other, you're also playing a human being with frailties sure to be magnified in painful closeup. Even harder if you're playing a real-life president, someone well-known from history, with familiar gestures to replicate and big shoes to fill.
Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown, or that occupies the Oval Office. Let's pay homage, then, on this Presidents Day, to those actors who've taken on the challenge of playing a president, real or fictional, and have done so memorably enough to earn the votes of moviegoers past and present.
