Sony's "Amazing Spider-Man" spinoff "Sinister Six" has snared a director.
Deadline reports that Drew Goddard, who wrote and directed cult horror hit "The Cabin in the Woods," is in talks to helm the film, which is being planned as the springboard for an "Avengers"-style franchise focusing on the bad guys who terrorize the world of everyone's favorite web-slinger. The villains who make up the Sinister Six are Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman, and The Vulture, according to Deadline. (HitFix has a slightly different idea of the lineup.)
Goddard has reportedly already written the "Sinister Six" script, and just has to finalize a deal to direct. While there's no timeframe yet for when "Six" is expected to hit theaters, it will most likely make its debut after the bow of "Amazing Spider-Man 3," which is currently slated to open on June 10, 2016. A standalone Venom movie, directed by Alex Kurtzman, is also in the works.
Stay tuned for more news on the "Sinister Six" front. In the meantime, Goddard is prepping a "Daredevil" series for Netflix, while "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will swing into theaters on May 2.
