It took Lifetime a surprisingly long time to get around to making a movie about the life of actress Brittany Murphy, who died in 2009. The movie will star Amanda Fuller ("Last Man Standing," "Cheap Thrills") as the "Clueless" star, with Sherilyn Fenn ("Twin Peaks," "Ray Donovan") appearing as Brittany's mom Sharon. Murphy was only 32 when she died from a reported cardiac arrest, and her husband Simon Monjack died several months later. However, Murphy's biological father Angelo Bertolotti wanted to have her death re-investigated; he purported Murphy and Monjack were poisoned, and tried unsuccessfully to prove it in court.
The network is (in)famous for its dramatic, usually tragic biopics of famous women, like Anna Nicole Smith, Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, and Donatella Versace, as well as cheesy made-for-TV movies like "Flowers in the Attic" and "Lizzie Borden Took an Ax." The "Flowers" sequel, "Petals on the Wind," brought in 3.4M viewers, which isn't too shabby.
"The Brittany Murphy Story" will premiere on September 6.
