"Star Wars: Episode VIII" now has a release date: May 26, 2017. As StarWars.com noted, that's 40 years and a day after the release of "Star Wars: A New Hope" back in 1977. Most impressive.

It was already revealed that Rian Johnson will be writing and directing that film, but it was further confirmed at Disney's annual shareholders meeting. At the event, it was also revealed that the standalone "Star Wars" movie starring Felicity Jones and directed by Gareth Edwards will be titled "Rogue One." That starts filming this summer in London and it will be released December 16, 2016.

Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" hits theaters December 18, 2015.
