"7th Heaven," but that may finally be about to change.

The actress is set to star in "The Sinner," a crime thriller that USA Network has picked up to pilot. Not surprisingly, her new TV project sounds very different from the saccharine family drama that made her famous in the 1990s. In fact, "The Sinner" sounds like the polar opposite of "7th Heaven."

The plot centers on a young mother who commits a terrible act of public violence in a fit of rage that not even she understands. She'll find an unlikely ally in an investigator who is determined to discover why she did it. We don't expect many family meetings or group hugs, but it definitely sounds compelling.

The story is based on German crime writer Petra Hammesfahr's novel of the same name, with the pilot being adapted by Derek Simonds ("The Astronaut Wives Club"). Antonio Campos has signed on to direct, while Biel will executive produce alongside both Simonds and Campos as well as her production partner Michelle Purple.
