The "NCIS" family is in mourning this week after the sudden death of showrunner Gary Glasberg, who died in his sleep early Wednesday morning. He was 50.

Glasberg was executive producer of both "NCIS" and "NCIS: New Orleans," with previous producing credits including "Crossing Jordan," "Bones," "Shark," and "The Mentalist." He joined the "NCIS" world in 2009 and became showrunner in 2011.

The cast and crew issued a statement Wednesday, with the words added to the bottom of a tribute post:

Former star Cote de Pablo (2005-2013) issued a statement to Deadline:

"I worked with Gary Glasberg for years during my time at NCIS. The news is shocking and sad. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his two kids, with the cast and crew.....I will remember him by his great big smile."

Other stars shared tributes on Twitter:

"NCIS" Season 14 and "NCIS: New Orleans" Season 3 premiered on September 20, with Duane Henry, Jennifer Esposito, and Wilmer Valderrama joining "NCIS" as series regulars.
