A Secret Service agent charged with investigating small-time counterfeiter Mister 880, Steve Buchanan (Burt Lancaster), arrives in New York with his partner, Mac (Millard Mitchell). Befriending several locals, including the pretty Ann Winslow (Dorothy McGuire) and jolly old "Skipper" Miller (Edmund Gwenn), Buchanan begins investigating the trail of counterfeit money. When the trail leads back to those he's come to know in New York, Buchanan must balance his duty with his new relationships.

Edmund Gwenn as "Kris Kringle"
In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy's annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain's main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity.
