Hal Kern worked on many distinguished films from the silent era through the mid '60s. He started out in the 'teens on such films as Ince's
Civilization. In 1922, he edited the first two-color Technicolor film, Toll of the Sea. Among the classics he has worked on include Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Star is Born and the Prisoner of Zenda. In 1939, Kern shared an Oscar with James E. Newcom for editing Gone with the Wind. He retired in 1964.
