Television producer James F. Fleming helped launch NBC's long-running Today Show as a news announcer on the premiere show. Later in his career, Fleming produced many acclaimed television documentaries, including the Emmy-winning four-hour-long ABC news documentary Africa (1967). A graduate of the University of Chicago, class of 1938, Fleming started out as a radio announcer for CBS and then became a radio correspondent in the Middle East and Moscow until he joined NBC in 1949. Three years later, Fleming was promoted to news director. By 1963, Fleming was again working for CBS and there produced a documentary series called Woman. With Edward R. Murrow, Fleming co-produced an episode of The Hidden Revolution and won a Peabody Award. Fleming passed away on August 10, 1996, at the age of 81. - Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
