James Roosevelt Biography

The son of former U.S. president Franklin Delano Roosevelt, James Roosevelt left the insurance business and the yeast industry to serve as the vice president of Samuel Goldwyn Productions. For Goldwyn, Roosevelt served as a representative on the board of United Artists and traveled the world during the late '30s, promoting Goldwyn's films, including Wuthering Heights. Later that year, Roosevelt founded Globe Productions. One of the notable films he produced was Pastor Hall (1940), an anti-Nazi tract that included an introduction by Eleanor Roosevelt, his mother. When the U.S. entered WWII, Roosevelt signed up for military duty and used his connections to insure that director John Ford's patriotic documentary Battle of Midway (1942) was publicly released.
