Kitty Gordon Biography
Biography
Victor Herbert wrote his 1911 operetta The Enchantress for this stately looking Anglo-American stage star, who was widely known for the beauty of her back. Like so many of her contemporaries, Gordon entered films in the mid-'10s courtesy of the World Company, among whose backers were Broadway impresario
William A. Brady and the Schubert organization. Joining such fellow luminaries as
Alice Brady,
Billie Burke and
Lillian Russell, Gordon demonstrated her art in a series of melodramas filmed in and around New York, including: Her Maternal Night (1916), Beloved Adventuress (1917),
The Wasp (1918) and
The Scar (1919). Gordon left films in 1919 but reportedly appeared in early television in the 1950s.
