Mona Lisa Biography
Biography
A rather enigmatic actress,
Mona Lisa (born Gloria Guinto) is remembered, if at all, for the three films she did for the silent era's leading woman director,
Lois Weber:
To Please One Woman (1920),
What's Worth While? (1921), and
Too Wise Wives (1921). The latter is still around today and reveals a charming, dark-haired actress whose appearance actually rather resembles the famous painting, from which she obviously chose her screen moniker. She later played a murderess (named "Ishtar Lane" no less) in a 1922
Corinne Griffith melodrama,
Divorce Coupons, and a chorus girl in
Notoriety (1922), which featured a young
Rod La Rocque.
Mona Lisa's only "talkie" appearance seems to have been a bit part in
Sucker Money (1933), a cheap exploitation melodrama helmed by yet another prominent woman director,
Dorothy Davenport (Mrs.
Wallace Reid).
