Film editor
Stu Linder began cutting features as an apprentice at Paramount in the early '60s. His first job as a full-fledged editor was to join four others in shaping up
John Frankenheimer's Grand Prix (1966). Linder and his colleagues shared an Oscar for their work on this film. Later, he worked with distinguished director
Mike Nichols as an assistant editor on such films as Catch 22 (1970) and
Carnal Knowledge (1971). He labored steadily until 1975, when he temporarily exchanged his hectic Hollywood life for a more reflective one crossing the seas aboard a sailboat. After sailing around the world, he returned to editing with
My Bodyguard (1980). In 1981, he teamed with first-time director
Barry Levinson for
Diner. Linder has subsequently edited nearly all of Levinson's features, including The Natural (1984), Rainman (1988),
Quiz Show (1994),
Wag the Dog (1997), and
Sphere (1998).
