I was not so sure I really wanted to see this as I am not so much into scarey movies. But when I read about it, I knew I needed to see it.The reason I loved this movie is that I seriously NEED some sort of confirmation that there is life after death. And somehow, after seeing 1408, I am more sure than ever that spirit NEVER dies.I loved this movie and am so glad that against some of my better judgment, I just said, "I am going to wing it and see it."Best thing I could have done for myself today. I strongly recommend it for anyone who needs more evidence that there IS life after death.

A few good scares, but no real explanation why a random room in a random hotel was so evil. Sure, lots of people died there over the years, but what started the evilness, the room had a case of gas? In the classic "The Haunting of Hell House" (probably the scariest movie ever made) you find out why the house is haunted. Not so in this movie.

Contrary to some who thought this movie was disappointing, not worth paying two cents for, etc., I disagree. It was entirely entertaining, riveting and, if you can stay in your seat long enough (versus sticking to the ceiling reacting to some of its scarier moments), you will see there is a point to everything John Cusak's character is going through. Grieving the loss of his daughter and the subsequent failure of his marriage (he supposedly freaked and fled), this man is deviously looking for some sign of the after-life, some meaning in "whatever comes next". He is continually let down by each supposed haunted house he visits until he gets to this hotel in New York, summoned there by a postcard that reads only "Don't stay in Room 1408."Well, of course, that is just what he intends to do against everyone's warnings. Within minutes, however, he is begging to get out and can't. The door leads only to a brick wall, he tries to walk out on the ledge and finds there are no other windows leading to other rooms. A real creep fest! But, try to be patient until the true point comes through at the end. I won't spoil it by writing it here but, in the very last scene, you will get it....and it has nothing to do with horror, it seems to have everything to do with having faith.

Why can't film writers, producers and directors make a clean movie without filthy language and taking my Savior's name in vain??? I would love to see this movie, but will not because of the poor reviews on language and sexual content. Please writers, producers and directors clean your act up: not all people want to see your crap!!!!!!!

Im not really sure what I just watched. It was an hour and fifty seven minutes of absolute chaos. I walked out of the movie not understanding at all what happened. I am a sucker for a scary movie, espically a Steven King adaptation but 1408 was more than I could handle. It made me jump and had great thrill but I fail to understand this movie.

THIS MOVIE WAS SILLY. John Cusak's over rehearsed dialogue was flat. Everyone else was unesessarily creepy or morose. The plot jumped around and eventually made no sense at all. Why was his dad there? Why did his daughter appear and turn to dust and he just wipes her away? Who was that spook in the airduct and was that a camera??? If electronics don't work in the room, how did he get wireless internet and even after it got soaked it kept working? C'mon, don't put things into the movie and then not use them!! Why did the room freeze? How did he get out? Was Sam Jackson simply a 'token' black actor? I can't see any reason for his character that couldn't have been played by Tom Arnold or Bill Paxton. Why Jackson?? If you're going to hire an actor such as him, use him! Make his part significant and appropriate to his character style. I'd rather have watched him talk about "mothe$fu@in@ this or that" ghosts than more of Cusak freaking out, pulling at his hair and over acting. His wife looked like she was late ************** during the whole movie. Bad acting. His daughter looked like Wednesday Addams. Puleeeeez! I got into the show for free and even with free popcorn and pop I still felt I paid too much.

I can not tell you how excited I was to see this movie. Since MONTHS ago when my sister and I first saw the preview, it was starred on our list of movies to see and I can not tell you how disappointed I was sitting in that theater. I love horror movies and thought this would be a good one, but it was not. As Stephen King ususally does, the sotry line was pumped full of unnecessary dialogue and scenes, and the "emotional" scenes with John Cusack's daughter seemed too in depth and totally took away from the pace of the film. Though, the pace of the film itself was not as fast as I would have hoped. There were not many scary parts. I thought he'd go into the room and live through pure hell, but nothing much really scary or life threatening happened to him to make you really feel frightened. The ending was totally bogus. Who ever actually really enjoyed this movie must not be that into horror films, because this should not even be in the same category. Stephen King totally missed the mark on this one! This movie was bad...had a little potential at certain parts, but failed to deliver...and failed miserably!
