Director Burr Steers, of the terrific "Igby Goes Down," is stuck polishing clichès. show more

    Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle

Often silly but it's an honest, unselfconscious exploration of the conflict between a man's physical and psychological age. show more

For a swoon-fest aimed at tweens, 17 Again has a lot going for it. show more

    Carrie Rickey Philadelphia Inquirer

While the movie feels shelf-worn, Efron's performance is fresh. show more

Elizabeth Weitzman New York Daily News

Though Mann and Perry are game, it's Efron who carries the movie. show more

    Kirk Honeycutt The Hollywood Reporter

Works better than you might imagine at times but stumbles awkwardly other times. The unevenness in the writing is matched by directorial overkill in certain comic sequences. show more

    Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times

Pleasant, harmless PG-13 entertainment, with a plot a little more surprising and acting a little better than I expected. show more

    Connie Ogle Miami Herald

Though there's nothing revolutionary about 17 Again, the movie is undeniably enjoyable. show more

In the scenes where Efron isn't on screen, things tend to get boring. Plus, we could've lived without having watched so many scenes where Zac is showing off his basketball skills. show more

    Charlotte Observer

As a remake of "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Back to the Future," the movies it borrows from most heavily, the relive-your-senior-year comedy 17 Again falls a little short of the mark. But as a funny, sweet and smart star vehicle tailored for Zac "High School Musical" Efron, it's right on the money. show more

I have written one with a similar idea... YOUNG AGAIN... and mine is better. It involves regained sexual potency and a 59 year old man goes back into his 16 year old body.... has sexual potency .. makes two girls pregnant... Much more to tell... but I see mine as better... a better, more serious plot... more of a drama..... invites philosophical reflection....

A surprisingly good movie. Definitely good to see Zac Efron in a new type of role with emotional range.

This movie was great not only for kids and teens but parents as well. Gives off a good message for teens to make the right decisions in life.

Acting is not bad in this one. The sexual messages are still not good for kids and the "new-age" message of spirit-guide is also not a good for anyone. For this reason I gave it a lower scoring than I would have if they left it PG without new-age messages.
