This movie did it's job very well, as all going-out experiences should. It took me out of my world for a shor t period of time and placed me somewhere else. I enjoyed the story of these two men from different places in thier lives, taking a strained journey together, gaining small but valuable perspectives into each other's life. I would have loved this adventure in any type of world from science fiction to gothic horror, but feel that the western theme was probably the most well suited. Therefore, VERY GOOD!

Why Guy would you give out so much information in your review? I for one thought it was a great movie, even though I am not a Crowe fan or wasn't I should say until this one

Started well, a touch of Shane thrown into the original with Gretchen Moll looking alot like Jean Arthur and Keven Durmondstrutting into the Jack Palance roll. But where was the Alan Ladd character----Chris Bale morphed into it much too late, and the action scenes were too muddledand just calling out for some Wild Bunch choreographyAnd where was the realism? Would an outlaw like Ben Wadejust wait around, (even for a great looking woman), having adrink, letting everyone in the town just walk in to arrest him?Would he wipe out the men who just risked their lives to free him? Would he voluntarily, once safe, out of risk hand over hisguns and walk into captivity---whistle to his horse aside? Why didn't anyone--- the writer, producer, director---just sayas this script reads, "the outlaw has no clothes!'

What's not to love! Great acting and a decent plot along with great filming and a lot of realism. This is what a western should be like!

I watched the old Glen Ford version and I like the new version MUCH more. The character of rancher Dan Evans is much better developed in this version. The new version also has a what, in my opinion, is a much more accurate depiction of how people really looked and probably behaved in the Old West; the Glenn Ford gang was so clean cut it looked like they were being pursued by barbers and taylors instead of lawmen.Well acted, well paced and worth watching on the big screen.5 stars

Ok - I THINK that Ben Watson (Russell Crowe) killed his gang AND got on the train to help Chritian Bale's character's family to get their $1000 and water and the respect of his boy. AND once he accomplished that - whistled for his horse. If he HADN'T killed his gang then the Pickerton rep and the boy would have never gotten out of there. But not a clever or feel good ending unless you are looking for the depressive irony that sometimes life can bring. For the rest of us simpletons who like to feel good when we walk out from a film. Bah!

I am not much of a western movie goer but the user reviews were all pretty good and there isn't much else to see right now so I took a risk and loved it! So glad I gave it a chance. The acting was fantastic by all characters and the scenery was great. Will be looking forward to this when it comes out on DVD!

A rousing adventure, I found this movie to be an exhilirating tour de force of guts and sheer bravado. William Shatner does an excellent job at convincing us that money is not necessarily the end all and be all in the pursuit of happiness. Mark-Paul Gosselaar only reinforces the theory that those who pick from the condemned tree of knowledge are doomed to expell thoughts of wisdom on the ocean of life.
