  • It’s more of a bawdy buddy movie about the horse’s trainer, Chip Woolley, and owner, Mark Allen (who exec produced), with a bit of slapstick thrown in. show more

  • While the film isn't without charming moments -- the Derby sequence is entertaining -- the lack of narrative sophistication grates. show more

  • Far too much of this plodding picture is spent on odd couple Chip and Alex's road trip transporting Mine That Bird to Kentucky. Forced atmospherics, clichéd action bits and some tone-deaf slapstick weigh things down as well. show more

Notice how the "experts" all panned this movie but us regular movie-goers (the ones who actually paid for our tickets) loved it. It just goes to show how out-of-touch with the public the "experts" are. This is an inspirational movie about the underdog triumphing against great odds (say 50-to-1), much like another great horse flick "Seabisquit". Of course we all know how it ends, but the journey is just as important as the destination. I thought it was a great touch to have Calvin Borel play himself. Sure, Borel's no actor. But he IS Calvin Borel, one of the most loved and best jockeys in racing. And then to see the actual subjects in the closing credits was another excellent decision. It's a great story with excellent acting (kudos to Skeet Ulrich, et al) and it deserves to be seen. The bottom line is if a big time movie reviewer gives a film a bad review you may just want to go see it!!

I just saw this movie and it's very inspiring to watch underdogs who no one believes in, and then they win. It is highly entertaining with no drag from scene to scene. For a small movie, the acting was really good too. Loved the fact that the jockey, Calvin Borel, played himself.
