I found myself completely engrossed and even more confused about exactly what was going on within these characters' souls that made them so flawed... t marvelous. However I was so distracted by Catherine Deneuve's upper lip plastic surgery botch job, that I could barely look at her, and I always felt she was the most beautiful actress there was. This movie is disturbing but intellectually challenging and beautiful to behold(except for Deneuve's upper lip) Full Review

Pretty awful and pointless. And way too long...almost 2 and a half hours, after which you walk out of the theater still not caring about any of the... characters. They don't care about each other, either; the only apparent love here is between Catherine Deneuve's character and her husband. I love foreign films because they often make you think...but all I thought after leaving this movie was how happy I am not to have a soulless family like this one. I'm surprised Deneuve took the role. Full Review
I found this a great Holiday movie. I love the actors. I'm a great fan of Tim McGraw and he was so funny- enjoyed it.
This movie is a misery. Pretentous cannot do it justice. This fiercely overrated movie is a bore, depressing and not particularly interesting. I like... an intellectual french movie with interesting characters, but these are dreary people with dreary lives of unmitigated narcissim. Even the scenes of urban France leave you thinking you would never want to visit. Full Review

With at least nine primary characters and running two and a half hours, it's a big, fat novel of a movie - a domestic epic that fuses bitterness and forgiveness in completely satisfying ways.Full Review
A movie that is almost indecently satisfying and at the same time elusive, at once intellectually lofty -- marked by allusions to Emerson, Shakespeare and Seamus Heaney as well as Nietzsche -- and as earthy as the passionate provincial family that is its heart and cosmos and reason for being.Full Review
What results is a captivating portrait of the most gorgeously fractious dysfunctional family.Full Review
