A Vilna Legend Plot Summary and Details

One of the last Yiddish-language films to be released by an American company, Vilna Legend is actually a hybrid. Most of the footage is derived from a 1924 Russian silent film lensed in Poland, supplemented by a new prologue, epilogue and interior narration. The basic story concerns an arranged marriage between a young boy (Lev Megilov) and girl (Eda Kaminsky). What follows is proof positive that no man can alter the will of God; fortunately, God turns out to be on the side of the marriage. The new scenes feature Broadway-actor Joseph Buloff as a philosophical gent who relates the story to a tavernkeeper and a brace of travellers (one of whom is played by Jacob Mestel, who wrote the American "bookends" for this film).
