The silly writing and direction of Lady in the Water, both the products of Shyamalan, seemed like the work of a school child, rather than an adult film maker. Aside from Shyamalan?s evident self absorption, and the obvious fiction that he told his young children this pointless story, Lady in The Water has the disconnected quality of a movie that was made up as it went along. It is also apparent that no one knew what was shot the day before; consequently there is no cohesive flow to this lame story. When you have adolescent writing and direction, it stands to reason that the acting will reflect that. Giamatti?s performance was an embarrassment. It seemed he was doing a poor Richard Dreyfus impersonation. All the characters in this movie were lame clichés. The movie was silly beyond belief, and it just kept getting sillier. Since I was at home when I saw this DVD I was unable to walk out, so I suffered through it till its pointless conclusion. It started nowhere and it ended in the same place. This movie is very bad. It is so bad it?s an insult!

I grew up in the 60's and took my daughter to see this movie and we both walked out wanting to see it over and over again. The music was outstanding and the characters were great. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves Beatle music I give it a 10

Once I got over the horror that they took all my favorite Beatles songs and actually wrote a story around the lyrics, which was a hard thing to swallow, but I got did get past the shock - I tried to board the train the filmmakers were putting me on. But it didn't work.There is a lot of imagination in the film and the director has got a good sense of being really creative with visuals. But she doesn't know how to write a script. The story was terrible. It was an ambitious idea but the director was too focused on the musical numbers that she forgot how to make good sense of the story. They didn't need to have so many musical numbers in the film, which are strung together to try to form a story. They should have written a story and used the best songs to enhance the story. I was so bored. A good film has a good story that keeps you wanting to turn the page as in a good novel. This kept me looking at my watch until a good scene with clever visuals happened. And the director could learn a lot from some good music video directors who don't always have the singers lipsync on camera but sometimes show them doing other things in the song. I got really annoyed with the amount of singing in each song. I was begging for some relief, just a little bit of the guy walking while we heard a part of the song.Wait for it on video. And fast forward to the Bono and Eddie Izzard scenes which are trippy and good.

Wow..can't understand why people like this movie so much. If you cut the content down by perhaps 3/4..then you'd maybe have a bearable movie. we walked out towards the end..i was gritting my teeth waiting for it to be over..it was so drawn out and slow-moving with too much frivolous artsy crap. Just didn't grab my attention at all.

This movie is absolutely amazing. if you love the beatles, love colorful scenes, and love musicals and romance, THIS IS THE MOVIE FOR YOU! don't listen to anyone who says it's a bad movie. That's just because they lived through the beatles and vietnam and are sick of it. But if you're young like me and still love romance and the beatles, you MUST see this movie. I actually fell in love with this movie. I took my boyfriend to see it, and then my mom, and i'm going to take my aunt, and then I'm gonna see it again! I immediately bought the soundtrack as soon as I got home. The cast is amazing, the songs are amazing, and the special effects are just wow. THIS MOVIE IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE! I ABSOULTELY LOVE IT! See it! I know you'll love it

A thoroughly enjoyabe movie. My husband and I are in our 50's and this movie brought back wonderful memories. The acting was superb, the singing excellent, and the story line enchanting. The writers had such an imagination, almost brilliant. I can't wait to see it again.
