Screenwriting this smart, inventive, passionate and rip-roaringly funny is a rare species. It's magic. show more

Snags on the fact that neither story depicted -- not Kaufman's and especially not Orlean's -- is enough to sustain more than an incidental interest. show more

Even at its best, Adaptation is one of the movie year's most esoteric outings -- more so than even Paul Thomas Anderson's far superior "Punch-drunk Love." Too smart to ignore but a little too smugly superior to like, this could be a movie that ends up slapping its target audience in the face by shooting itself in the foot. show more

One of the BEST movies ever! The twists and turns and even a \"prediction\" of what is in the design and ending makes it a movie I\'ve watched several times and look forward to seeing it again. Each time I find something else that is clever as well as entertaining. Definitely NOT a comedy:)

As a movie "buff" and sometimes actor myself, I've seen a LOT of movies and can testify how hard it is to find a truly original plot....but this movie HAS ONE... a truly original plot with so many twists that even a jaded old movie fan can't guess what's going to happen next. I noticed that some of the critics called this a comedy .. and it is, indeed, very funny in places but be prepared for it to turn deadly serious toward the end. Although a lot funnier in "Raising Arizona", a REAL comedy, Cage is at his dramatic best giving distinct characters to both of two identical twin brothers...and the "plot within a plot within a plot" thing is absolutely ingenious writing.. I highly recommend this film.

I've gotten into some scuffles with good friends, total strangers and a (now ex-) girlfriend over my unabashed love of Nicolas Cage. So when I was offered a chance to defend this great thespian --...
