Perhaps the critics don't like the movie and continue to tell us that it is unbelievable and boring because they can't believe that stuff like this happens in America. We often try to hide from that which is uncomfortable and simply don't recognize the context within this perfect society! I've used this movie as a two prong resource: a history lesson and a visual study of human nature. Mr. Washington is fantastic as usual; Mr. Crow is hard to watch in the role with his personal struggles but is excellent; Armand Assante is smooth as usual and plays a great Don. The only fault found is in the language at times, which was not authentic at times. Phrases such as "You know what I mean?" are not period '60s early '70s. The director probably gave the actors a little freedom there and it should have been caught in the editing room and eliminated.

ALTHOUGH THIS IS A TRUE STORY, WE KNOW A LOT WAS LEFT OUT. THE FULL STORY COULD NOT BE TOLD FOR MANY REASONS. GREAT MOVIE, EVEN GREATER ACTORS.

Looks like the majority of the public who has seen it feels the way I do - this movie was stunningly refreshing! The cinematography places the moviegoer in a "Typical day in NY City." I know, I lived in NY and have visited Manhattan. The critics don't find it believable, that there really can exist such love in this world. Funny that the movies is based on a true story - I'd love to find out the details of that! The style is sometimes hard to follow, but with a little "Paying attention," it flows beautifully. The flashbacks are a reflection of how our minds really work in any given day. A must see!!!!!! Also, please spread the word as much as possible, so we can get more of these kinds of movies in our theaters!!!! www.bellathemovie.com

It was a shame the duo didn't share more screen time together. I really enjoyed this movie. The only thing that made me uneasy was the drug use. It made me wonder though, Frank Lucas had 250 mil seized by the government! How much is enough? I wonder what came of him after jail..

I went to see this movie with my mother. I never heard of Frank Lucas but I learned a lot from this movie. It was well directed. It's amazing what is done to bring drugs into this country and how quickly money is made. I kept thinking throughout the movie that if his girl didn't buy him the fur coat and hat that he wouldn't have been a target. Denzel plays the villain very well. He just keeps getting better.

I just saw this movie with my eleven year old and my husband. Of course my eleven year old was bored to tears, but my husband and I were taken aback, me moreso. American Gangster for me was a true "period piece" movie that really took me back to a place that I remembered growing up "in the hood". I really knew (of) the people in kthe movie as well as some of the locations. I really enjoyed Denzel's potrayal in this movie and he definately addded to the realism of that time. Yes I did allow my child to accompanyme to this film; I felt it to prove to be a valuable life learning experience which the whole family partook in. HURRAH!! - SW8381
