  • Earnest, mostly predictable and candidly didactic. That said, I'm glad it got made -- what's wrong with films that teach? -- and especially glad that a remarkably gifted newcomer named Nicole Beharie got to play the central role. show more

  • A torn-from-the-headlines tale of institutional racism and injustice in the Lone Star State of not-so-long-ago, American Violet might not be subtle, but it's certainly powerful. show more

  • Wears its righteous indignation and good intentions on its sleeve but its simplistic, heavy handed treatment of a complex issue gives it the weight of a contrived movie of the week melodrama. show more

This is the most oustanding, greatess movie that I came to enjoy. It showed just how some parts of Texas and other states are with dirty policemen and lawyers and judge\'s at the top of the list. I say this cause I\'m a Texans homegrown and retired law enforcement. I think every female should see this. I\'m glad it is on DVD so I can ********* my granddaughters can see it.

Great movie. The acting was good. The story is heartbreaking, but it is the reality many face in America. I would recommend you watch.

This is an excellent movie. The cast portrayed the characters very well. I also agree with rmccain15165 that all races should go and see this movie. Nicole Beharie will have a good future with her acting career. It seems that we will never be equal because the DA was re-elected. People of all races need to stand up for what is right and fair. We are not living in 1942 people lets get a reality check. My generation will not out without a fight. I totally agree with Dee Roberts for taking a stand in what she felt was right and not take the plea deal.
