Most Westerns have the same predictable plot, but Appaloosa has at least one twist and turn. The main characters have good chemistry and a few oddly funny bits. And if you end up not liking this movie, you'll at least love the wide opendesert scenery.

a solid western with a psychological twist on the female character. not much is realistic besides the sets, but it is hollywood afterall. Viggo Mortensen steals the show.

This movie was horribly bad. It played as though it was written, produced, directed and edited by someone who won a contest. Embarrassingly slow, painfully slow. I only bit because there were 6 people in front of me that bought tickets so I changed my choice to this and was super disappointed. I watched Kung Fu Panda with my kid and had a better time. There was one old codger in the back that was laughing at the lamest lines in the movie. It really was shockingly lame. If you ride around town in a short yellow bus and take meds you might like this film. I'm using the word "might" liberally. Awful. No good parts to this film. I haven't see Rene Zellwigger or Ed Harris act so poorly in a film-EVER. Rene's part was super unbelievable.

Uh... bad direction (sorry, Ed), slooowww pace (zzzzz....), rough editing, and even Dean Semler's cinematography was uncharacteristically uneven (too dark, some parts seemed to be totally natural light with the actor's faces blacked out in the shade of their cowboy hats, other parts seemed lit-- hard to believe this was intentional. I thought maybe it had been shot by two different D.P's with totally differernt styles. Even the continuity had lots of problems. And the music... don't get me started (too late for that I guess.) Zellweger's character was a cartoonish stereotype. Jeromy Irons wasted his skill even appearing in this film. I really wanted to like this movie but it gave me little reason too. I am absolutely stupefied at the high praises some critics are giving it! What a waste of studio money and my time. Again, sorry Ed. Just calling it like I see it. (P.S. Do not hang around for the ending song under the credits. You'll be sorry. Again, sorry Ed.)

Not the best Western I have seen, but not the worst either. The ending was interesting.

GREAT MOVIE, lots of humor, great action, a little love story that goes bad. Actors were GREAT, anyone that doesn't like this movie just don't understand it is history the old west. WE all should learn about this part of American History.

I thought this was great. It had humor, drama, twists and wonderful chemistry from fine performances. If people weren't impressed by it, I imagine they're only impressed with things like "The Love Guru" or "Meet the Zohan". Truly a terrific Western. No wonder most professional critics are raving about it.
