Plot & Details
Can a bimbo with a taste for the good life find happiness with a pack of nerds who spend their evenings rolling twenty-sided dice in a basement? Twenty-something Hildur (Ragnhildur Steinunn Jonsdottir) has spent most of her life getting by on her good looks and charm, and its worked out well for the most part -- her long-time boyfriend Jolli (David Thor Jonsson) has made a fortune selling cars, and he allows her to live a life of leisure and luxury. All that stops when Jolli is arrested for fraud, and it appears he'll be spending a long time behind bars. With no home of her own and no where to turn, Hildur ends up staying with her friend Bjort (Sara Marti Gudmundsdottir), a single mother who shares her flat with her pre-teen son Snorri (Alexander Siggurdsson). Hildur is faced with the dilemma of looking for a job for the first time when Snorri tells her his favorite comic book shop is hiring, and while she doesn't know much about the merchandise, owner Goggi (Halldor Magnusson) is taken with her blonde beauty and hires her anyway. The geeky customers at the shop are pleased to be spending time with sexy Hildur, but to her they could be speaking Sanskrit when they discuss the finer points of graphic novels, anime or live action role playing games, so Goggi decides to invite her along the next time he and his pals play their favorite fantasy game. While Hildur is puzzled at first, she suddenly finds herself drawn into the world of live action fantasy gaming, and soon she's fighting beasts and errant knights with the best of them. A major box-office success in its native Iceland, Astropia was screened in some English-speaking territories under the title Dorks and Damsels.
