Bad Words, starring Jason Bateman in a tour de force of comic wickedness, takes sinful pleasure in rubbing our noses in the toxic joys of revenge. show more

It's tough to summon sufficiently negative language to describe the unfunny, desperate mess that is Bad Words. show more

    Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal

For precursors of Guy's perversity, one would have to go back to W.C. Fields, who made antic art out of his characters' abhorrence of children. show more

For his directorial debut, Bateman returns to his bad-boy beginnings. And the results are predictably amusing. show more

    John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter

Choosing it for his debut as director, Bateman demonstrates the same knack for timing and fine shadings of attitude as he does onscreen. show more

While Bad Words is a little too dopey to take seriously, this is compensated for with a handful of truly amusing sequences. show more

Bad Words is the kind of pitch-black dark comedy that makes you wince even as you give up on stifling the chuckles. show more

    Joe Williams St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Bad Words is often very funny, thanks to Bateman’s brick-wall malevolence and screenwriter Andrew Dodge’s inventively rude dialogue. show more

Although the going is so sluggish at times that the film often looks like it needs artificial respiration, stick it out. The end result is oddly entertaining. show more

The film is full of sharp observations about academic contests today, with Tiger Moms and tough-love Dads browbeating the kids from the wings. The ending is kind of a tap-out, but Bateman keeps this clipping along, maintaining the mean streak and potty mouth that makes Bad Words the dirtiest and funniest comedy of the new year. show more

I'm a fan of Jason Bateman, but this movie was a disappointment. A little too mean spirited toward random kids for no particular reason and not as funny as I was hoping.

For Jason Bateman's first time directing, I liked the fact that he kept the movie light hearted, while addressing a sadder truth. One criticism I have (small) is that he spoke too softly in some scenes making the punch-line delivery a little weak.

This movie was halarious - start to finish. Not a bad story either. Movie critics need to be a little less pompous and get a life! It funny how certail movies are panned and are in multiple theaters in the same complexes many times a day and others are dumped in 2 weeks. This was a very good movie which got no recognition - which it well deserved.

I love Jason Bateman but this movie just missed the high marks with me... I cringed with the sex in the closet with an acquaintance with obvious hangups!! DON"T LOOK AT ME!! lol but anyway....He was better in Horrible Bosses...

Again, Hollywood and critic elitists miss the boat. A great, very funny movie. I was engaged start to finish and laughed straight thru. Bateman directed this as well. He is becoming a favorite of mine. He is going places regardless of what the highbrow critics think.

I have never gone to a movie again the next day after seeing it, today I am returning to BIG WORDS. I think this is a wonder film. Finally a movie that gives us a plot - great direction and cast. My only problem was the bad wigs they used in the film. I laughed my ass off.
