I went to see Beowulf this afternoon, without knowing that it's being shown in three versions, including digital 3D and I-Max 3D.As you can probably tell from other reviews, the computer graphics are pretty lame without 3D.

Remember when theaters had a cartoon at the end of the movie ?A Daffy Duck cartoon would have helped me forget I paid money to see this thing.

I cannot tell you how disappointing this film was. Every so often when going to the theater, you see something so blatantly bad, so clearly below par, that you are tempted to write and ask for your money back. "Beowulf" is that film.Frankly, I had high hopes for this release. If you have ever read the poem, you know that it has tremendous possibility for a swords and sorcery genre film. Its got everything - kings, heros, swords, demons, magic talismans... it should have been a fantasy to rival the world of Tolkien. Sadly, these guys chose to cheapen the whole thing. It has none of the quality of filmmaking of the Lord of the Rings series. The visual effects were so far below the state of the art that the entire movie looks like it was rendered on a playstation. Frankly, considering the jerky, repetitive movements of the rendered actors, it was hard to watch. Frankly, they simply missed an enormous opportunity to make a beautiful film, went cheap, and it shows.Further, the art direction was just downright stupid. Who renders high heels onto a mythical demon, in a time before time began? It insults the viewers to modernize these figures in so unimaginitive a fashion, not to mention that the cheap digital nature of the film took visualizations meant to be erotic and seductive and made them plastic in the worst way. Even Angelina Jolie nude and gold painted lacked sexual provocation, and looked, well, fake. That is hard to do considering how hot she is.The story is similarly poorly assembled. Where they could have delved into the real moral texture of the story - the fatal flaws of the hero Beowulf - they chose to gloss over, simply indicate that he was indeed less than perfect, and get back to the action. The writers simply truncated every possible line of character development, and hoped you would not notice. Please, do yourself a favor. Skip this one, wait for it to hit TNT. It is not worth more than $2 out of ten of your movie going dollars.

folks, I love special special effects...this movie had them, I love ancient literature and history...this movie had them, but character devopment was so sorely lacking that the Three D was reduced to 1 D...yeah...the movie gets a D. Such literature and history does not stand alone in a cinema. The ancient story retelling in 3-d was like a trip to see Dino bones. Very interesting but needs a bit of flesh, a little meat on the bones. So folks, if you love anicent literature and history of the olden Anglo/Danish variety, and special effects...see the movie. But if you require a movie to have some flesh on its plot...well, you need more than the two pieces of eye candy (yes, animated butts looked great) than you might want to skip this one. I saw it...I am glad I did. But good movies on the big screen get several viewings by me. This was not worth a repeat. Can I get a refund?

I saw this movie last night. This was excellent and I just don't understand why more people are not seeing this. I was impressed how it stayed to the story and the CGI was spectacular. The only thing I would say was the cons was that there wasn't subtitles AND that this should have been rated R. A mother took her children swiftly out of the movie. As she should have, this movie is NOT for children or even a 13 year old- it has too many adult themes.

I love animated movies. Final Fantasy being the best. Beowulf's animation is even better. So if animation realism is your thing, this is a hot movie. If story, plot, common sense, and a fully developed movie is your thing, this this movie falls far short. There are so many things that are not explained, too many things that don't make sense, too many things that are Hollywood gimmicks to make this a movie that fulfills.Plus, why oh why does Hollywood continue to shoot itself down. This could have been a great movie, if they would have had more solid writing, clearer explainations, deeper plots, more character development, and leave out the anti religious theme at the end of the movie. I am not religious at all, but historically and in this time period, they were extremely religious. So if you want to make a movie and it isn't from Hollywood La La land but from a historical period, accept the fact that this is the way it was back then. To show a burning church just for the sake of showing a burning church is nothing more than cheap philosophical license. Now they probably lost 30% of the country's movie audience. Glad I don't own any stock in Hollywood movies. Cause the way these morons keep going, it will be a Money Pit. Oh yeah, seems like they made a movie about that once.sturan4377

An excellent film, good story telling and well casted voice overs. Quite violent and not suitable for younger viewers. The 3D effects were great and brought the story to life. The sexual content was mild and barely noticable.

So you know from the start this is not reality. Let yourself go. This was very stay in your seat good. I was held right in the moment. This was so much better than the dry rot I had to read in school. I loved it!
