  • An odd duck, a Southern melodrama that aspires to be a sensitive coming-of-age story, with some humor mixed in. Sometimes it doesn’t soar the way it should, though it remains engaging most of the way. show more

  • The film is, like its main character, too naïve to understand or, at least, to deploy the reparative powers of camp. show more

  • It can’t be faulted for its noble intentions. Like many an after-school special, however, it can be faulted in virtually every other department, including stilted performances, turgid dialogue, flat direction, and a general ignorance regarding human nature. show more

I loved this movie. Its a movie about finding yourself, knowing yourself, and then loving yourself. Its just proves that everything that glitters isn't necessarily gold. To thine own self be true!
