This video is part of an eight-volume PBS series that celebrates modern American poetry. Journalist Bill Moyers hosts the series, which profiles the lives and works of some of the leading poets in America. In this program, poets Sekou Sundiata and Naomi Shihab Nye discuss how ideas and events in their lives have informed their works. Each poet brought to the mainland of America a unique perspective grounded in their heritage: Sundiata is of African descent; Nye is from Palestine. The poets read from their own selected works.
