Levar Burton, Shelly Duvall, and CCH Pounder star in this biopic tracing the life of Booker T. Washington, a former slave who discovered that the road to freedom is paved by education. A slave in his youth, Washington longed for the day he would become literate. When the Civil War ended and Washington was freed, he labored in a salt furnace to support his family. Years later, after learning to read and write, the men who came into this world as a slave finally discovered what it means to be free.
