These negative scared reviews are what scares me. Have you ever listened to any classic children's stories and songs. They are about all sorts of scary things. If you would rather computer generated zoo animals with sarcastic humor and empty personalities then that is fine. But recognize that it is and always has been healthy for children to imaginatively explore and face their fears. The movie is about appreciating your loved ones and making an effort to pay attention to each other. Do you see that or were the buttons on the eyes blocking the way.

Yikes. I havent seen it yet, but all of the negative comments on this site actually have me asking one thing. Do people actually understand movie ratings? From wiki: PG - PARENTAL GUIDANCE SUGGESTED - SOME MATERIAL MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. THESE FILMS MAY CONTAIN SOME MILD LANGUAGE, CRUDE HUMOR, THEMATIC ELEMENTS, SEXUAL THEMES, SCARY MOMENTS AND/OR VIOLENCE. NO DRUG CONTENT IS PRESENT. Just becuase it's an animated film doesnt mean its automatically suited for your child. Do your homework before you complain.

I would NOT recommend this for anyone with young kids. I was skeptical about bringing my 4 & 6 yr old due to the PG rating and the mixed reviews here on this site. I should have listened to my gut and not taken them to see it. Honestly, if the burlesque scene was the biggest problem I would not have an issue, but HELLOOOO??? Creepy alternate universe "other mother" wants to take Coraline's eyes and sew buttons in their place??? My kids will be having nightmares for weeks. That is way worse than the burlesque scene that everyone seems to have an issue with (although that was kind of weird too).

Absolutely stunning movie. Visually, it was amazing; I can't get over the quality of the animation. I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman, and I loved the story. A modern "Alice In Wonderland." I agree with some that it might not be appreciated by very small children; the story themes were fairly mature, the personal struggles intense at times. The burlesque that many complain of was, in my opinion, not that bad. After reading some of the more prudish user comments, I was expecting something much worse. The scene was so exaggerated, and creepy for entirely different reasons, that the breast issue was really a non-issue. To those who were so outraged, I would mention that the film was rated "PG," not "G." And in any event, most children approaching middle school age have already seen and heard things much more risque and disturbing than this beautiful movie, which was, after all, a rather nicely told morality tale.

My wife and I took our 11 yr old dgt to see this movie. Be prepared to pay more for this 2 hour yawnfest than you would for tickets to a better movie without 3D glasses. Two adult tickets and one child cost us $30, and that was for a Valentines Day special matinee rate. Previews were lengthy and better 3D experience than the movie itself. The animation was remarkable, but not worth the price of admission. The story line is predictable and the plot is weak, Ned Flanders might find the film inappropriate for children. The burlesque act is the best part of the film, and the only reason I could find to give this movie any star at all.

I am disappointed that as a mother you couldn't appreciate the storyline. Although there are a few things left to question, this movie is overall amazing. I agree that the two minute scene where one of the sisters is wearing a revealing costume, but as Topher pointed out, it is a costume. I think maybe the boys were not interested in the movie and that is why they said it was creepy. I think many kids would enjoy this film, as well as adults and those who appreciate amazing art. Although I am not one of them, having gone with people who do, and they said the stop-motion filming beats the incredible story. Even though I may not know much about art, it was beautiful. Go see this film. It is nothing short of amazing.

This is movie is spectacular. Think twice for very young children but older kids should love it.

I took my 4 and 5 year old girls to it and they absolutely loved it. This movie is no more intense or scary than any one of a dozen Disney movies...like Lion King, Little Mermaid, Hercules or even Bambi for that matter. What's more, it's much more inventive and absolutely dazzling to watch. The one scene with the older women doing a vaudeville/burlesque act is a bit on the racy side for kids under 6 or 7, but neither of my girls even commented on it. During the scene in question, it's revealed that what you're seeing is actually costumes, which takes it from near nudity, to absurdity. My 5 year old understood it immediately and even commented, "it was a costume!" I almost didnt' take my kids because of all the user reviews and some of the comments from newspaper critics. But I'm glad I didn't listen. Incredibly inventive, amazing to watch, and a great overall message. Take my advice, if your'e not a prude, take your kids to see this. The few questionable scenes are worth the artistry, entertainment, and the story.

This movie is unsuitable for children. We took a large group of 10 and 11 year old boys to it (3 moms). The boys didn't like it and described it as creepy. Not because they were scared. These are normal baseball, football, basketball, soccer and wrestler kind of boys. What they couldn't deal with and neither could I for that matter, was the nudity and vulgarity of certain scenes. One boy said it was sick---very appropriate comment. There is a part of the movie highlighting the "talents" of two aging burlesque sisters (one has a walker). The other one is nearly naked (except for a thong and tassels) in her singing/trapeze performance. Picture the largest endowed woman you could imagine but old and naked. Now do you want to see that or have your child see that? The creators are extremely talented. They didn't need to trash the movie up with that vulgarity. There should be a disclaimer. One last thing. In one scene Coraline screams out "god." That was unnecessary as well.
