Many of you might not know that Neil Gaiman wrote this book. Read the book. It's really good. It meant for older children and teens. The movie is slightly different from the book since most movies are, however your all should like the creativity of the film. It might be a little dark for young children but otherwise a good movie.

I thought it was inappropriate for kids under 10 and wasn't that good from an adult perspective either.

My 7 & 11 year old have seen this movie 3 times and loved it! I also thought it was a great movie, very well done! Who doesn't have emotional issues with their mothers? I'm sure my mom wanted to sew buttons in place of my eyes too! It's a movie that's a little scary as well as fun. All ends well!

Do you like The Nightmare Before Christmas? Did your kids like it? If you answered yes to these questions then your children prob. wont have an issues with this movie. In the end it is up to YOU the PARENT to watch the previews and do the research. I loved the movie so did the 8 and 11 years olds I brought to watch it. We liked it so much we watched it again the same day! (seriously!) We saw it in 2D and in 3D. Both were great! In the 3D movie there were a few younger children there. They looked to be 3, 5 and 6. They seemed to like it too! Not once did anyone need to leave the movie because they were scared. There was one part that some people may not find funny but everyone in the movie theater seemed to laugh at it.... there is an old lady and she is wearing a thong (you cant see it hardly at all her hair is covering it) and she is wearing big sea shell pasties over her breasts. To be honest this was really funny! When watching a movie please remember to look at it from a CHILD point of view not an ADULT point of view! Most kids would think this is a funny scene. Watch the trailers on this page I think they will help with your decision. If you decide to go... have fun! P.S. if you have an issue with bugs.... dont go

Scary movie! A very deeply disturbing movie! Would definitely not recommend it for young children! It would also be deeply unsettling movie for any adult recovering from abuse as a child! There is a graphic metaphor expressing a universal childlike wish to return to the safety and unconditional love of the mother's womb. For example, Coraline travels though a 'forbidden' womb like magical tunnel; later, Coraline finds herself 'abandoned' by her 'real' parents and entrapped by in a sinister womb like spider web spun by a monster 'devouring mother' spider. This 'other' 'emotionally devouring' mother demands absolute obedience (emotional fusion) (the souls of her children--the eyes--replaced with soul-less buttons eyes that can no longer see anything but what the mother wishes them to see); this is the terrible price and the punishment presented for wishing for 'mother love.' If you have ANY strong unfinished emotional issues with your mother, this will certainly raise them! Yikes! I hope the producers and makers of this film are working out their issues with this!!! Therapists will love this movie!

I think this is a prime example of people gravitating to something because it s artsy. Artsy doesn't automatically mean good. This happens all the time. Critics often will review a movie and comment about the grand cinematography and the superb method of the lighting or what not... this is code for it's an art movie and I don't want to be thought of as the stooge who didn't get it. The debate about weather or not this is a kids movie totally obscures weather this is a good movie or not. NO IT IS NOT FOR KIDS!! and yes the use of stop film animation is artsy and creepily beautiful. The story is heady and high concept as you would expect from the creator of Neverwhere and Mirrormask, Neil Gaiman. But it is delivered with such deliberate pacing and slow beats that it plods. The voice acting ranges from way too overblown by the ancillary characters (except the cat) to way too understated by Coraline/Dakota Fanning, she ranges from an emotional 2 most of the way through and peeks at an emotional 5 when her life is threatened. The character designs are a problem as well, they don't look like stop motion characters, they look like CGI. Add that to the 3D and the whole movie ended up looking like a jumpily animated Pixar film. I wanted to like this movie if only because I love both Nightmare/Xmas and the work of Neil Gaiman so for me to not enjoy is a true disapointment.
