This is an excellent movie. Just because it only received three stars does not mean it is a three star movie. The story line stayed true to what actually happened, as I am acquainted with a grandson of the main characters in real life.

This is a phenominal movie. Don't let the critics 2 star reviews fool you. I was not bored for a single second.

This is a fantastic movie because it is authentic and consistent with my experience as a Holocaust survivor. While there is some dramatization the rest is true.

The movie was excellent from start to finish. This is the best Daniel Craig 's role so far (forget James Bond!). Apart from action and drama, I absolutley love the way Zwik showed different elements of human nature in this picture. I don't think the ending was that predictable - I expected a different one. The fact that it was based on a true story made it even more interesting to watch. Like in almost every movie, some parts were better than others, but two or three scenes were so suspensefull, I couldn't eat my popcorn. The theater was full and unusually quaet. Although the film is 2 hours and 17 minutes, it didn't seem long. If you want to see a good serious movie this winter, I highly recoment this one.

It was OK...some parts were excellent, some dragged on forever, and some were over-Hollywood-ized. Zus is devastated when his wife and child are killed by the Nazis, but 2 minutes later he's taking up with the first forrest camper that makes eyes at him. What wife? The fact that it was based on a true story makes it worth seeing, but it wasn't amazingly excellent. The ending was so predictable I wanted to barf, but don't let that stop you from seeing it.

I saw a lot of movies this season and enjoyed many, especially Gran Torino and Slumdog MIllionaire. This movie made all the others seem insignificant. To learn this historical true story was truly inspirational. We sat is awe at the bravery and leadership of these people and their desire to remain human in an inhuman and inhumane plight. They would rather flee, freeze, starve and suffer then to surrender. What an amazing saga. Bravo.

This movie was excellent, and brilliantly acted by everyone in it. Daniel Craig and Leiv Schriber were absolutely wonderful in their respective roles. It is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. It was exciting and when it ended, everybody in the theatre stayed in their seats wanting more. I loved it.........If this movie does not win best picture & best acting, the Hollywood crowd are complet phonies................

This was an excellent movie. It was very well done. We went with another couple who went to Belarus several years ago and were in a village on the outskirts of the forest. They met a grandmother there who told them stories of how they would take refuge in the woods when the Germans came and how she was carried out on her father's shoulders. Hearing that account made it even more interesting. Amazing story!

I just saw Defiance tonight. It was well worth my money and time. During times of war, so many of these relevant tales of survival become forgotten and never told. It's always refreshing to be reminded that everyone holds the power to determine his/her own destiny. These people just didn't wait around like "sitting ducks" hoping and praying for outside political or spiritual forces to intervene on their behalf. Sometimes, we ,Americans, take our blessings for granted. Jewish people suffered immensely during WWII. Occasionally, we need to be reminded about what can happen when political authorities choose to initiate genocidal measures against a specific population of people. Such events have happened within the last 20 to 30 years in other countries. We never seem to learn!!!
