Dorm (Dek hor) Synopsis & Summary

Synopsis

Director Songyos Sugmakanan's gentle and reserved Thai horror picture Dek Hor (AKA Dorm) is a coming of age tale that quietly observes the experiences of a laconic young boy, Ton (Chalee Trairat) swept up in the currents of early adolescence. Forced to leave home because of a dark secret harbored by his father, he moves to a new preparatory school, in mid-year, and comes face-to-face with an unfamiliar dormitory residence, an unfamiliar bed and unfamiliar classmates. Plagued with feelings of inner loneliness and isolation - compounded by the icy disciplinarian who runs the school - Ton sinks into a morass of sadness. As rumors circulate throughout the facility about the role played by the headmistress in the accidental drowning death of a young boy a decade earlier, however, Ton observes signs which suggest that the boy's spirit may haunt the school, including bathroom taps that run continuously and refuse to shut off, and doors that open and close by themselves. Soon, Ton encounters that spirit - but little can prepare him for the friendship that develops between them. Jintara Sukaphatra, Siranath Jianthavorn and Suttipong Tudpitakkul co-star. - Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
