I went to Catholic school back in the 60's...my mother was raised in a Catholic orphanage.....from my experience of it and most definitely my mother's nightmarish childhood....I choose not to go see this movie. Who wants to relive such cruelty?

We saw this movie last nite. I was raised a Catholic but I'm no longer active in the church. I believe there were/are pedophile priests within the church but I don't believe that Father Flynn was abusing Donald Miller. The boy clearly adored Flynn. The boy was gay (his Mother knew it and his Father beat him because of it). I also feel that Fr. Flynn was gay but not a pedophile. The two are not interchangeable. The vow of celibacy that Catholic priests have to take is just plain wrong - people aren't meant to live without human contact. Try it for yourself!! This tradition goes back to the Catholic church wanting to keep all of the wealth to itself upon the priest's death instead of having to share it with his wife/kids/etc.... Sadly, there are things that I miss about a Catholic Mass that this movie reminded me of, but I cannot support the Catholic Church.

Great acting, nice visuals - but the ending involves a change of character that I don't buy. Perhaps the nuns are too cliche in nature. The matter of race seems a bit dated now. Streep was outstanding except for the last few lines. Hoffman is almost too good an actor to prject any doubt as what he says.

Acting may have been great, but they left so much out in creating a real story...boring and disappointing. Many of us watching (even at 40) did not experience the racial tensions of that era, live through Catholic school, etc. - none of this was really developed in the story. Just 3 people more or less in the movie with little from the outside...one conversation with the mom that is supposed to set the whole story (half way through the movie)? So sure, give out an award for an actor/actress...but shouldn't it be for acting within a movie that is somehow at least...good?

I laughed out loud when Meryl Streep biffed the boy on the back of the head during Mass. She nailed the Mother Superior role! Brought me back to Catholic School in New Jersey 1959! Must see cinema!!!

I thought the picture was excellent! Held my attention from opening right up to end. Riviting plot keeps you guessing right up to the end!

This sounds like the most amazing movie/ It came right on time while I was losing my desire to watch any newly produced Hollywood movies. Unfortunately almost all the new movies produced for Theatres and CDs, are terribly cheaply produced by amateurs both the producers and the so called actors. Either simply silly if called comedy or needdlessly full with blood, very bad language, without any feeling in it. They all make you feel if you eat in a bad restaurant full meal and walk out with a feeling of empty stomach! They all look like written on a napkin and produced on hand held amateur cameras, full of nonsense! This movie sounds like bring us back the old Hollywwod movies we terribly missed for the last few years.
