I really liked this movie. My fiance and I went to see it last night. We started off in a tiff, but the movie totally sucked me in and I was able to really enjoy it. At the end of the movie, my eyes were wide open. I couldn't believe how incredible the acting was. PSH, Streep and Amy Adams all did stellar jobs, as did the mother of the boy. We missed the first 15 minutes of the film, and will definitely rent it again to see it in its entirety. Pleasantly surprised to see such excellent films being made again :)

Another "is the priest an evil dude movie" put out by Hollywood designed to shock us. Wait for the DVD. Great acting for story with so much potential, but not enough great acting to help this movie to stand on it's own 2 legs. 3 stars out of 5.

I wasn't too impressed with this movie at all. I would vote the mother as the worst mother of the year. Puleeze, that wasn't even believable that a mother would turn a blind eye to what she knew, in her heart to be true, even if the boy was gay (as she alledged). Meryl Streep and the Priest were excellent actors but the movie needed to reflect more outrage. I was really hoping for a really sterling movie event, not great but not the worst either!

Great movie, stellar performances. This movie was written, directed and acted superbly. I was especially impressed with the depth Meryl Streep showed in her portrayal. ***spoiler alert*** For those of us who've seen it, when she says "I have doubts", it is not that she has doubts about her decision... she says moments before that she is sure... she has doubts about a G-d who would allow such awful things to occur, doubts about the patriarchy of the Christian church, doubts about the life she has chosen, etc. She knew the priest was guilty in her heart and in her mind, and when she challenged him with the claim of having spoken with the nun from his previous church, she caught him in his lie and confirmed her suspicions definitively.

The best movie I've seen all year. The story was engaging because it focused on our discomfort with doubt, and which way to act on it. It left us in doubt regarding the priest. The contrast of a salty, cold and austere nun who, when observed, constantly showed loving concern for those around her, against a warm, charismatic priest whose more showy displays of care and concern left us in doubt as to his authenticity was genius. Meryl Streep is brilliant. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is amazing. And the supporting cast was beyond excellent. Hope they sweep the Oscars! Fast paced, insightful, wry and intelligent. It is a classic.

I saw the movie yesterday and thought the acting was very good, but the movie itself was very slow. Stories them of gossip was interesting, but small actions were taken to far for me to believe any person especially a nun would be that irresponsible.

Saw the movie yesterday. I rarely add a review but after reading some of these I need to reply. I believe some of the reviewers missed the point of the movie and were expecting to see an actual relationship between a priest and boy. The movie is not about the relationship between the priest and the boy .. the movie is about conflict between a nun and a priest. The movie dealt with the underlying story of a priest and pedophile - which it never pursued and I'm glad it didn't - though I believe he was innocent. I went to catholic school in my grammar and high school years having nuns in grammar and brothers in high school. I was an altar boy and relived all those scenes on the altar. I do agree with one reviewer where it was said it could have been a bit longer to followup on his transfer. The last scene said it all I HAVE DOUBTS.. how many of us have been the target of "gossip" as described by the many feathers from the pillow being blown everywhere and never retrived. Once a lie is out there - as the movie showed - a person's life can be destroyed.. especially in the 50's 60's when conservatism was so high and the Church was so strong. Thankfully it changed and this kind of behavior is no longer swept under the rug. .

I Doubt if I would advise anyone to go see this movie. I love the actors and they did a great job, but I did not enjoy this movie as much as I wish I could have.

I went to catholic school in scranton, pa. from 1946 to 1958 and this movie was outstanding. I caught myself back at mass in 1956 or so when a nun hit me behind the head for just talkingin mass. Thanks to all the actors, the kids were really excellent. bobby boos
