Dr. Seuss' The Lorax

PG| 1 hr. 26 min.

Plot Summary
Twelve-year-old Ted (Zac Efron) lives in a place virtually devoid of nature; no flowers or trees grow in the town of Thneedville. Ted would very much like to win the heart of Audrey (Taylor Swift), the girl of his dreams, but to do this, he must find that which she most desires: a Truffula tree. To get it, Ted delves into the story of the Lorax (Danny DeVito), once the gruff guardian of the forest, and the Once-ler (Ed Helms), who let greed overtake his respect for nature.

  • Yikes! Chris Renaud and Kyle Balda direct strictly for short-attention spans on a fruit-loopy palette that made me want to puke. Had Dr. Seuss lived (he died in 1991), I'm confident he would have puked as well. show more

  • Armed with a splendid voice cast and a gorgeously-rendered 3D-CG landscape, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax entertains while delivering it's pro-environmental, anti-greed message wrapped in a bright package of primary colors that truly pop. show more

  • The Lorax is so big, flashy and redundant that it courts precisely the kind of blind consumerism it's supposed to be condemning. It doesn't trust kids to sit still and pay attention for even a minute. show more

This was boring. Just boring. Had maybe 2 or 3 funny parts, all of which you\'ve already seen if you saw the trailer.

The Lorax feels like a paint-by-numbers, cookie-cutter film, that, curiously, given its message, comes off as a big, steaming dollop of style over substance. It is funny in parts, but nowhere near enough to give it half as much charm as it thinks it has.
