Like District 9, an allegory of apartheid that took four Oscar nods and put Blomkamp on the map, Elysium delivers sci-fi without dumbing it down. It's a hell-raiser with a social conscience. show more

The film provides an intelligently imagined future world. show more

Decidedly more thought-provoking than most big-studio summer fare. show more

    John Anderson Wall Street Journal

Mr. Damon brings both a weary optimism and convincing physicality to Max, who is no revolutionary. He just wants to live, and is willing to don an exoskeletal combat suit and fight robots to do it. show more

    Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer

Among the slew of recent futuristic hell-in-a-handbasket spectacles, Elysium takes the cake. show more

Unfortunately, Elysium devolves. It doesn’t address the ramifications of making everyone healthy for eternity, or what it is on Earth they’re making or digging up that fuels whatever economy is left on the space station. For such a well thought-out premise, there’s not a mention of how capitalism works in this futureworld. show more

    Todd McCarthy The Hollywood Reporter

All the interest and good will built up by the sharply conceived preliminaries is washed away in a succession of scenes that feel crushingly routine and generic, not to mentioned guided by ideological urges. show more

    William Goss

Frankly, Elysium is a bit of a liberal’s wet dream: the good guys want accessible healthcare, while the bad guys want to do away with undocumented immigrants. show more

    Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times

Damon’s everyman workhorse is tragically sympathetic, plodding ahead against all odds. Copley is brilliant as the sadistic villain. Foster is … well, you gotta see it to believe it. In the meantime, you’ll be treated to one of the most entertaining action films of the year. show more

    Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune

With most films, that'd be enough to cut out half the potential American audience. But effective, evocative science fiction, which Elysium is, has a way of getting by with an ILA (Insidious Liberal Agenda) in the guise of worst-case dystopia. show more

Lame story added to lame acting = painfully bad movie.

the story had potential .. however looks like a low budget... poor implementation, again most of the movie are fights and battle ...

I had high hopes for this but it just didn\'t work for me. Matt\'s shaved head didn\'t either. The story was weak and it could have been better. sorry :(

It was very good. I was really enjoying it when I got so excited, I wet my Depends. I had to leave the movie so I only got to see the first five minutes. I will go back when I get some more Depends.

I was skeptical when it came to watching this movie. I honestly thought it was going to be a bit boring like Man of Steel, but after watching the reviews and trailers on I was convinced. The movie has plenty of action and the story line is descent.

The set was very creative. Matt Damon was great as usual. I think there could have been more of a connection between the leading couple. Overall, it was good for a science fiction movie.

Just once I would like to see a movie where you can\'t guess the ending and entire plot just 20 minutes in. You know what\'s coming up through the whole movie. Yet I love matt Damon so much I will always go to any movie he makes. Jody foster looks great but sounds terrible

I was so let down by this flick. Loved District 9 but this flick put the message it was trying to convey before filmmaking and hence failed on the most basic part of filmmaking which is to entertain. In District 9 I actually cared about the civil servant trying to do his job.
