You can look at it 2 ways: 1. Evolution is the scientifically accepted way of thinking of how we all came to, therefore all who disagrees are heretics and should be treated as such - Where have we heard that one before? 2. ID is yet another way of explaining how we all came to and it should be put on the shelf as a plausible hypothesis until proven and therefore being able to reach the same status as the theory of Evolution. That academia is just as bad as any fundamentalist society is well-known and the message we should take away is that it is just as bad to be on the "wrong" side in academia as it is in any fundamentalist society. However, it should be made crystal clear that any institution has the right to hire whomever they want to (clearing equal employment opportunity laws) and if they find a staff member teaching something that is not in line with the institutions fundamental guidelines they should have the opportunity to fire this person. After all, at least these fellows don't have to fear the inquisition and the stake as Gallileo had to... So if they lose their jobs there should be other opportunities open to them. Or just take their knowledge and join the ranks of private employment like all of us who don't work in academia. In the end I give the movie 1 star due to the message of the film that if you don't think the way all others do you're screwed and nobody will employ you when there are always ways out.

Awesome Film! Freedom is what this film is about and not the veracity of evolution or ID. It is about the freedom to hold certain beleives that cannot be proven or disproven any more than the existance of God. We do not harass people for their religious beliefs why should the world of scientific academia be any different? If the world of science was allowed to rule supreme, no one would be allowed to hold even religious beliefs let alone suggest an alternative view of creation apart from evolution. Science is not just anti-ID, it is anti-God if left unchecked. The freedom to hold certain beleifs is fundamental to a free society. Freedom does not exist if those with dissenting or unpopular views are not allowed to hold those views.

On behalf of all the peoples of Europe, we wholeheartedly support the teaching of intelligent design in American schools. Judging by the comments here, it's having the desired affect. Please, please, please keep teaching it to your children and if possible, see if you can throw out ALL scientific disciplines in your schools. Keep it up!

More interesting than Spiderman,Ironman, and Dick Tracy. Ben Stein is in an award winning performance. I cannot believe that in the enlightened era science still believes in Darwinism and atheism, I can understand they being agnostic but totally dismissing this after seeing the scientific community who harbour their own unproven theories it is shameful. To me Ben Stein is not only Captain Courageous, but by intelligence design...........he is brilliant. What a great documentary.....needs more publicity./

The treatment of people who would include intelligent design in a discussion of evolution and origin of the species reminds one of the treatment scientists who disagree with the man made global warming scare receive. They are deemed idiots out of hand and discounted as too stupid to question "settled science". The movie is sobering and the truth in it is readily apparent, but as we have seen before the attack dogs will be unleached on Mr. Steins' movie without remorse.

Stein through a balanced series of interviews of scientists with differing views on Darwinism and Intelligent Design brings to the surface how "Political Correctness" even enters into the scientific community precluding true academic freedom. He demonstrates how hypotheses become accepted as fact. how that effects human belief systems and our subsequent behavioral values. Stein is able to maintain some humor but is anything but flippant. This is not a religious film. It is a serious film regarding our freedom to pursue our search for truth, especially in science. It is controversial because it challenges "Political Correctness" which in turn destroys true freedom. 5 STARS Tom N

Just go to ANY athiest website, or hey.... just read here, and see what the haters have to say about this movie. There you will read in vicious terms the proof of Ben Stein's premise, which is that the athiests are out to kill religion and teaching Darwinsim is their tool to do it. The global debate over Darwinism is NOT about science vs religion. THat idea is pure red herring. It IS about competing worldviews: Athiesm, or more accurately "Meism," vs Theism. Any serious thinker on these matters should see this movie, regardless of their perspective. My hope is that "Expelled" provokes a global debate on the topic, and that as a result we will see the restoration of academic freedom and truly uncensored scientifc inquiry.
