May 4, 2007Fay Grim is an act of immaturity or desparation by Hal Hartley. He patches together a mish mash of disparate scenes filmed in exotic locales for two numbing hours. The occasional ironic chuckle, wry Goldblum eyebrow and likable Posey moment become trivial as characters are shuffled around, leaving little human residue to care about. Apparently, Hartley intended to duplicate the mad hatter cadence of current political events, but ended up spending lots of money to beef up an SNL skit with a suicide car bomb. Neither deep, funny or smart enough for the time used. Glibly cynical pseudo satirical thriller?
