Fishing Boats on the Ocean Synopsis & Summary

Synopsis

This placid little documentary contains far more ocean than fishing boats. Most of the scenes were taken from the decks of one of the boats, a rather difficult achievement in 1908. The rocking and swaying of the boat tended to induce nausea rather than fascination from moviegoers of the period. Far better, at least according to the trade magazine Variety, were the shots taken from the vantage point of the shore. Fishing Boats on the Ocean was designed as "filler," to pass the time between the films the audiences really wanted to see. - Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
