This anthology of classic silent and Golden Age American film comedy concentrates on four popular performers from the 1920s and '30s. Jay Jackson narrates as the film first traces the rise of Oliver Hardy and his pairing with Stan Laurel, then focuses on the silent comedian Charley Chase. The film concludes with an abbreviated version of Buster Keaton's 1925 feature "Seven Chances," in which Jimmy Shannon (Buster Keaton) struggles to get married in time to receive his inheritance.
