One might think that, at the age of 71, I would have long since seen The Great Waltz, but it was only recently that I happened upon it. To say that I was enchanted would be a gross understatement. Even in black and white the costumes were spectacular and the sets sleek and lavish. Fernand Gravet, an actor with whom I am not familiar, held his own quite well in the role of Johann Strauss II; no mean feat since he was playing against two remarkable women. Two time Academy Award winner Luise Rainer was all sweetness and charm as Poldi, the composer's utterly loyal and long suffering wife while Miriza Poljuk allowed me to recall how stunning the performance of a truly gifted coloratura soprano can be. Once known as "The Berlin Nightingale" her face was a lovely as her voice and her voice called forth the glory of angels. For anyone who loves the waltz and the glory of great music this is a film not to to be missed. That the film is an admittedly fictional account of the life of the man known as The Waltz King is of little consequence. From the first note of the first waltz, it really doesn't matter.

Good movie, bad ending. We go to the movies to escape. Not to experience the terrible ending of this movie. If I wanted to experience a story like this I would have stayed home and watched the news. I give it 2 stars, it would have been 4 without the totally realistic depressing ending. Get it together Coen Brothers. I've been a big fan, if you keep making movies like this you'll lose us. It's kind of like if you ended Oh, Brother Where Art Thou with everybody drowning.

This movie is full of Christmas magic. It's delightful and fun with a lot of laughs. Well produced, directed, acted and staged. Go see it! The sibling anonymous scene alone is worth the price of admission

I am 66 years old and when my best friend said she wanted me to go to it, I wasn't thrilled, but I have to say in my opinion, this is the best Christmas movie ever. I will buy it. The opening was so precious and hooked me till the end. When Willie and Fred first took off in that sled, my heart jumped up into my throat and stayed there. Those sled scenes pulled at my childhood heartstrings the most. Many times I felt myself crying and laughing at the same time. Then there was the music...the old Christmas songs we heard as children and then the heavy base music for the dance sequences...I give it Six Stars.

I went and saw this movie the day it opened with my daughter and her boyfriend,it had us all on the edge of our seats! i thought it was a great movie with just the right amount of suspenseit opens with a bang and ends with a bang, and the twisted crazy bad guy has you cringing at him one minute and laughing at him the next, because he is so completely nuts! Overall i think it's a movie worth seeing.

This was one of the best Christmas movies in a long time. We laughed all the way through and felt good when it was over. Just what a movie is supposed to do. Well done!!!!
