A tragic film with an uplifting story that gets better and better as the film progresses. I was doubtful because usually MTV movies are extremely cheesy, but i was pleasantly suprised. Go see this movie.

A powerful drama that will emotionally move even the most rigid. Hatred and bigotry abound but the dedication, determination and perseverance of a school teacher transcends it all. Imagine that the Holocaust could be one of the most valuable teaching tools. I'm glad I saw it.

Yesterday, when I saw the movie "Freedom Writers" with a few of my friends it made me realize writting in a journal or diary is an excellant way to express your feeling because the truth always comes out when implying past experence. The producer who wrote this screenplay and the director who directed this movie did an awesume job in my opinion. It's a must see movie that everybody show see.

While the idea behind this movie is great, it just wasn't real. There is just no way a foxy miniskirted teacher is going to show up that way for class in that kind of classroom. Hilary was trying to play much too upper class. She needed to get more real. The students were what made it great. As to the other staff, there always has to be the trouble makers. Take out the Hollywood parts and this could/would have been great. Use a more down to earth 23 year old actress too. H S is a darn good actress, but this just wasn't for her if you ask me. Hmmmm Maybe I need to see it again in a few days???By the way, do by all means read the book "The Diary of Ann Frank" even if you don't see this movie.

An amazing story. Thinking back on other "teacher" movies, I think this has to be the one that moved me the most. Hillary Swank was good but the kids were the real stars of this movie.

Freedom Writers is an Ok movie for people who actually work with kids as a living...it will give you that missed 'dose' of inspiration and pat on the back that you need doing such an important job everyday. On the other hand though, as a standalone movie, Freedom Writers is one of those 'been there, done that' type of movies...Hilary Swank's character is almost identical to Michelle Pfeiffer's character in Dangerous Minds, another movie from the 90s about a teacher helping out a 'tough' group of kids. Swank doesn't come across as 'genuine' enough for me though. The beginning of the movie plays out 'stereotyped' inner city teen behavior that we have seen before and that to me personally is quite annoying..makes you want to say "just shut the f*
