Fabrice Joubert's Oscar-nominated animated short French Roast employs a combination of CG graphics and cel animation, in its account of a prim and polished French café-goer, horrified to discover - after he finishes an espresso - that he's completely out of cash. He attempts to stall by ordering a second cup, and then a third, and then a fourth, and so on - until the bill is astronomically high. Meanwhile, two additional characters turn up: a little old woman, who appears to have a purse full of cash, and a physically filthy homeless man, patrolling the streets outside with a stick that he's using to pick up trash.
